All the Q2 crosshair pics were
generated from screen shots taken in q2dm4 at 640 x 480 resolution.
And please note, while you may find your aim improving with some of
these crosshairs simply because of their shape, color, or size, unless it's stated that
they have been repositioned to be more on target, they will be in the same relatively
inaccurate screen position as the originals.
How To Change The Quake 2
or Kingpin Crosshair
1.
EASIEST WAY
Download a pak file and put it in your baseq2 folder. (main folder for
Kingpin). C:\quake2\baseq2\pak9.pak
2.
A LITTLE HARDER
Download individual .pcx files and create your own
pak file. Create a New Pak
Most of the crosshairs on this site are already in their own pak9.pak file to make changing your crosshair as easy as possible. Place any downloaded pak9.pak file into your baseq2 folder. The game will revert to
the instructions in the higher numbered pak file first, ignoring the original crosshair
files in the pak0.pak.
To revert back to the original crosshairs, simply remove the
pak9.pak from the baseq2 folder. If you already have a pak9.pak file in that folder, rename the
crosshair pak file to a different unused pak number between 1-9.
Almost all the q2 crosshairs can be downloaded as individual .pcx files by
clicking on their picture. If you are going to build your own pak file or replace
the hairs in the pak0, you'll need a pak opening tool like Pak
Explorer.
All the instructions here were written with Quake 2 in mind.
Wherever the baseq2 folder is
referred to, in Kingpin the corresponding folder is called
main. Also, not ALL the Q2 crosshairs here look quite
right in Kingpin due to differences in the color palettes. If you find one that
looks a little funny, try another. Most of them do work fine. Avoid the
BH Sights.
Here's the originals in
case you misplace
them and later decide you want them back. pak9.pak
Download the entire BH-Sights
pack as
a zip file. It includes all their crosshairs
seen here in the first two tables, plus
smaller and larger versions of most of them.
